Greeting Minions…

It’s been awhile since I posted. Anything. There is a good, or rather not a good reason for it. Life has not been easy for me this summer. After finishing with ‘Something Bad’ and ‘Taigai Ridatsu,’ there was a lot of anticipation for either an update or a sequel to one of the stories. After some back and forth, I decided to work on a new story as I’d been frustrated with Bella-centric stories and needed a break, so I agreed to work on a project for Buggy’s Big Bang she’s hosting for a private writing community that I shall not name for personal reasons.

It is a bit, different. Not that far from what I’ve been working on that it leaves my current comfort zone, but it has a helluva lot less Bella. It is primarily NCIS: New Orleans and Hawaii 5-0 crossover, while pulling in all human characters from The Originals, and Myriam as the leading female protagonist. There are some random surprise characters from other fandoms that Buggy and I wrote over the years that make appearances or references as well, so it’s a little bit of a vegetable soup story, if you get the inference? I’m enjoying it. I don’t care if anyone else doesn’t. And you’ll understand why when I share what I have to next. But first, here is a REALLY short teaser from the current chapter I’m working on for Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler (NCIS:NOLA/H50, Myriam OC/Steve McGarrett):

Danny sighed as he stared at the text on his phone. He still could not believe that his partner made such an agreement but at the same time, it didn’t surprise him. Given the opportunity, he probably would have taken five minutes with a number of suspects over attacks that were personal to him or to the team.

Looking up, he found Myriam leaning against their situation table staring at him. “Don’t do that. It’s creepy,” he commented, scowling at her knowing expression. Danny then let out a breath. “Fine, but you’re going in there without sharp objects, without your gun,” he added as he pointed at the table for her to put them there. “And keep her in one piece.”

“You know I could hurt her just as well without any of that, right?”

“You’re not going in there as a cop.”

“That’s fine,” she shrugged, setting her sig and badge on the table. “It’s not like I need them to get what I need. Just bring me to her.”

At the end of June, my mother suffered a major stroke. It was rather significant as she has no use of her left side yet. She was admitted into the hospital and the first week was spent in ICU with daily CAT scans to track her brain swelling and bleed in her brain. It was so bad, the neurosurgeon felt it was best to remove a portion of her skull in order to give her brain room swell without blockage. Sometime in week two, she had some lethargy and it was found she was having seizures, only she wasn’t having the ‘seizure’. EEG and video surveillance eventually determined, as best could be described, her brain was misfiring. It wants to induce a seizure but can’t get the full signal out. By week four, she began feeling some numbness on her left side again, but no movement yet.

So, on July 27th, date specified because of more stress coming, she was transported by ambulance to a rehab facility. During this we discovered she will have new Medicare coverage on Aug 1st, with a company that was not in network with the facility she was going to. Didn’t matter, because on the 1st they sent her back because she began having fevers again and her lethargy and such came back. This past week, we found aside from a UTI, she was having those seizures again. So, that’s back under control and I’ll be making sure the new facility she’s going to that is in network has the medication she needs to avoid a repeat.

Today I got the first bill for all of this. From that ambulance transport done on the 27th. For the full cost of the trip. They never billed the insurance. So, that’s what Meeko has been dealing with and why I haven’t been posting on Facebook as much, updating on WordPress, or much anything. I’ve been on Twitter and Instagram some sharing a GoFundMe to raise money to help deal with the cost of these bills when they come in. Daily CAT scans, 2 weeks of ICU, and the upcoming long term rehabilitation is not going to be cheap. Her insurance plan is not the greatest for this as we anticipated something like this for my grandmother and not her. My uncle is already in the process securing a new job that brings in more money, but downside of that takes him away from home more and puts a lot of pressure on me to be the primary inside the house. So much that needs to be done and only so much that can be done. Anyone want to give me their winning lottery ticket? *puppy dog eyes*

I’m raising money to help offset her medical bills when they come in. We are still waiting on the larger bills yet, like from the hospital. All I received so far was her ambulance transport that they never billed to the insurance. If you are willing to help a little, visit my GoFundMe page.

Any questions about my new story or what’s going on, feel free to leave me a message.

Much Love,
Meeko

  1. Dam! You have had a rough summer. I hope your mother feels better soon. Dealing with insurance companies and medical bills sucks so much. I know from experience since my daughter and I both have MS. Just try to remember to breathe and take care of yourself. I’m wishing you both good things.

  2. Gosh busy summer is right. My heart goes out to you. Dealing with anyone who is sick and especially if it needs hospitalization is never easy and leaves you feeling all kinds of helpless. The aftermath with the bills leaves you all over the place too. Nothing I hate more than the medical system set up its overwhelming. Take time for you. Lord knows its easy to forget to take care of yourself running yourself ragged being the primary care giver. Wishing you and yours the best and cyber hugs

  3. Thank you. I already put in my vacation for work in September and I did manage to get a 1 day ticket to the New York comic con for myself. Not looking forward to next month when it’s only me and Grandma here.
